retired Friends School of Atlanta and Atlanta Friends Meeting
Who am I?
an educator. I knew I wanted to be a teacher in 3rd grade because I loved my teacher and wanted to be just like her. My first teaching job was in Walker County, GA, on Lookout Mountain, in a 3rd grade classroom! I moved to Atlanta for graduate work in Early Childhood education at Georgia State University, and never went back. I’ve taught at The Paideia School, The Children’s School, many preschools, and helped found Friends School of Atlanta. I’ve been a classroom teacher and music teacher. I moved into administrative work as the Director of The Phoenix School daycare, and then as Elementary Head at Friends School of Atlanta until I retired in 2014.
I am listening for justice because…
Martin Luther King Jr and John Lewis inspire me. “True peace is not merely the absence of tension, but the presence of justice.” (MLK) “When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something.” (JRL)
Listening for justice makes me feel…
like I”m speaking up.
I listen for…
a non-violent world.
